SPL

SPL aka Sam Pool has spent the last decade taking risks and breaking the mold in electronic music. Received internationally, SPL feeds the ears and souls of bassheads worldwide. From thousands of screaming fans in St. Petersburg and Kiev arenas, to massive club nights in Holland and New Zealand, to stateside venues such as the legendary Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado, SPL delivers with passion and musical prowess that goes beyond the current state of dance music. Because of his international experiences and influences, SPL has launched into new territories time and time again.

SPL’s most recent approach forays into the depths of dub-hop infused hyper-bass music. Combining elements from the pulse of an all-night party and a healthy dose of Trap-Star Crunk, a unique and highly energetic experience emerges every time SPL gets on the decks. For those who cannot wait for a show, the same sound and intensity can be found in his recent track “Back at It” or his massive remix of Bassnectar’s “Bass Head”. Either way, SPL is bound to take your head on an intergalactic-bass journey, and leave you begging for more!

At the forefront of San Francisco’s exploding dubstep scene, Antiserum continues to landscape the globe with the West Coast’s most visceral bass music. His production steeps in hip hop, reggae, and heavy metal – creating environments both dark and light, with an established tectonic bassline at 140bpm. His dj sets stretch between vast, futuristic soundscapes and rich, euphoric beats that are always packed with tons of original and unreleased material. He has played shows all over the USA & Canada, New Zealand, & Australia. A European tour is in the works for 2011.

TRIAGE
http://www.myspace.com/triagepdx

The production trio known as Triage is comprised of the integrated talents of Liar, Debt, and Seth Norman.
2010 has already been a big year for Triage, kicking it off with a remix of Datsik & Excision’s Boom [Rottun Recordings] and received heavy support from dubstep’s elite players. Their highly successful dubstep remix of Psidream’s Tech 9 hit Beatport’s Top 20 and found itself on countless mixes around the world. Hollow Point collaborations with SPL & The Bassist brought major heat with the “The Valhalla EP” featuring Pistol Pants, Debutante, Pitbull and Valhalla, all of which bolted up the charts within the first week of release. Triage will close out this year with another Techfunk offering with Jaden, collaborations with Messinian, vinyl releases on Vicious Audio and Requiem Audio, as well as a multi-genre album, forthcoming on Hollow Point Recordings. With a heavy stateside and international schedule, these three are driven to make Triage a household name, by way of exceptional production, combined with explosive, energetic, and exciting performances.

Newcomer Shakes steps up to plate for Hollow Point Digital #5, the Moving On EP.  This five pack of truly unique tracks take orchestral elements from around the world and dubby bass lines and combines them with an experimental slant to create what is sure to be a hit with jocks and fans alike in the West Coast future bass scene.

Shakes’ take on this style is no more exemplified than on the first track, Deux Temps.  Reminiscent of 90’s downbeat but with just enough dirt to stay firmly in dubstep country, this somber and emotive dub has two specific movements—each with its own personality.  On the first, a string quartet and pianos dance with a heavy yet tasteful baseline.  On the second, things get deep when a strong cello solo rolls over shuffle drums with glitch elements.  Stirring and expressive, Shakes carves out a truly unique style on Temps.

On Lullaby, heavy glitch whomp rides over an off-kilter beat in this experimental and evolving tune.  Midway, Middle Eastern strings join the party to add a unique flavor to the mix.  In the third movement, a full-on orchestra of strings, woodwinds, and brass gets the dubstep treatment in a driving outro.

Rounding out the EP are three more uniquely moody dubs from this up and coming talent.  With Amusia, Shakes melds traditional Rhythm and Blues with modern Dubstep. Mixing orchestral elements with a tasteful bass line and typical dubstep changes and wind-ups, Amusisa is a new kind of old funk,

He takes things a little heavier on Waffle.  This chuggy stepper blends a heavy, driving beat with a unique drone and hints of pianos to create a dark bass masterpiece.

With Music 9, a teased-in, subdued sexy ragtime vocal shares energies with piano stabs and a churning baseline in this ethereal dub.  True to form, at the break, Shakes lulls us to dreamland with an emotive string section, only to shatter the peace with stomping bass kicks and some good ol’ fashioned whomp.

SPL:  This EP has found it’s way on so many of my sets.  ”Music 9″ has become one of my favorite tracks of the year.  Pure stomping awesome.

Ill Gates: A solid ep from a promising new artist.  Keep your ears peeled!
